Eagle Carports / Tri-State Carports = Bad business
« on: March 27, 2007, 11:09:25 AM »
Anybody interested in buying one if those metal carports you see at several businesses around stating "Only $1095", check in to who the actual bulilder is. Most likely you are not doing business with a local business but instead some out of state business that doesn't really care about you once they get your money.
Here's my story ( kind of short version):

Back at the beginning of November 2006 I stopped by Aqua Wood Pools and Spas off exit 17N of interstate 87 they had one of those carports outside I checked it out and it looked pretty decent for the price,so I ordered one. The one I ordered was 20 x 26. I ordered it with the sides installed and with boxed eves(roof came to a point and has regular eves instead of being rounded down the sides) and 8 foot walls. It cost me $2565.00 plus tax. AquaWood collected the down payment of 10% the rest to be paid after install.
At the end of November I finally got an install date ( after several calls to Eagle Carports). On November 28,2006 a pick-up truck with a trailer and three mexicans(please don't complain that I said this. it is a fact) that appeared to speak broken english so I couldn't really talk with them, from I believe it was North Carolina pulled into my driveway. They were the install guys. They put the building up in about an hour and a half. It looked alright so I signed the paperwork and paid with a credit card.
The next day I started boxing in the ends to make it a garage. 2 or 3 days after the install it rained. The roof leaked in several places along the seams. I contacted AquaWood, since they are the people I thought was doing business with. they stated they didn't have anything to do with "those" building after they fax in the order. So they collected $256 of my money to send a fax and now don't really care about my problem. They told me to call Eagle Carports which I did on December 6,2006. They acknowleded that they have been having "some"problems with those installers but would have the leaks fixed ASAP. After not hearing from them for a week I called them and I was told that ASAP would be in about 3 or 4 weeks. I told them that it would be snowing in 3 or 4 weeks. They went on to tell me that I can't expect them to send somebody from down there all the way up here just to fix my roof. I told them that I did. They put it up wrong now they can fix it.
Here's the short part It is now March 27th 2007. My roof still leaks. I have talked to Eagle Carports way too many times to say. I have been lied to by them over and over again. They continue to accept responsibility for the shoddy workmanship, but only to the extent that it was the sub-contrators fault and that they would fix it the next time they are up here.
I filed a dispute with my credit card company. Last month they told me the last thing they needed was a contractor to say the roof was installed improperly, which no one wants to do because there is too much snow on the roof for them to see what was done. I explained that to the credit card company and also told them the only way for a metal roof to leak 2 days after it was done was if it was put up wrong. That didn't get me anywhere. I just got paperwork saying they are dropping the dispute.
I just filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. We'll see what happens there. Eagle Carports has over 60 complaints against them already http://www.vabbb.org/reportsframe.htm click on link and type in Eagle Carports. The same people also have another carport business Tri-State Carports, Inc which also has several complaints against them.

So make sure you know where the carport is coming from. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH EAGLE CARPORTS OR TRI-STATE CARPORTS Ask the local business you are buying from if they care if you have any problems with the building after they get your money. I have done alot of business with Aqua Wood in the past but yet they still want nothing to do with my problems with the buildig I bought from "them".

The funny thing is that they have 2 of these buildings on their property. The roof caved in on one of them. Wonder if they care about that? See pics:

Any qustions feel free to ask! Or call Eagle direct at 1-800-579-8589 and ask them about their customer satisfaction policy. It's a free call. Sure would be a shame if their phone lines got tied up with a bunch of calls from "all the way up " here.

Thanks for reading. I feel a little tiny bit better now.

After reporting them to the BBB finally got a phone call from them. Now they want to fix it on Monday. I told them I would be gone in the afternoon so it would have to be morning. They said they have people in front of me. I asked them how that could be since I paid them in November and have been waiting since the beginning of December to have it fixed. She said well other people are waiting too. Again I stated my case and told her that a normal business would fix what they screwed up first but that over the past few months I have learned you guys are not normal. She didn't want to hear that and just said if I am here when they get here they will fix it. If not it would have to wait until next time. LOL 4 more months I guess!

Well they were supposed to show up today at around noon to fix my leak. It was raining though so I called Eagle again. I was told that they have no idea what the contractors are going to do. "We are down here, they are up there somewhere!". I stated," You don't have any contact with them?" She said no, but if was raining they would not be able to fix it today and would have to reschedule. So I went to work. At 3:40pm my wife calls me and says they're here in the rain to fix the leak. What a mess. I tried to talk to one of them on the phone but he couldn't understand me and just kept saying uhuh to everything I said. Then I had to go into work. I called my wife later. They claim it is fixed. I'll have to check in the AM. Not sure how they could have done any siliconing or anything in the rain but I guess I'll find out in the AM.
This company is a total JOKE! They have no idea what their contractors are doing or what they will be doing. I had to hang around the house all day until  it was time to go to work. Then leave because I ws told it wouldn't bs repaired in the rain. Then this.  AGAIN, I REPEAT DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH EAGLE CARPORTS!

Finally after 4 months and a complaint filed with the BBB they showed up and fixed the leaks. Seems to be alright for now. Their excuse to the BBB was the snowy conditions up here. They didn't mention that it didn't snow until after a month from my original complaint. HMMMMMM
