Kevlar Paint Job
«
on:

Just wondering if anyone has seen one of those kevlar paint jobs in person? Does it actually provide any protection. From what I hear its like bed liner or rhino lining and can withstand a lot of abuse .... or is it just a gimmick

haven't seen the kevlar, but have seen the rhino coated,
my only thing is if your a "waxer" forget getting one of those paint jobs,
you will never get all of the wax off!

Unless kevlar paint can prevent dents I would spend the money elsewhere.

I don't know about dents, but sounds like a screwdriver might have trouble leaving a scratch

How often does your car get stabbed with a screwdriver?

I called the place that does it ....in Texas ... and according to him bed liner is 2600 psi and this stuff is 4700 psi, he brought up -not quite bullet proof but pretty damb tough, and actually lighter than bed liner (and 3 post clear coats). Again according to him it can taker quite a bit of rock and tree abuse. I think it would be pretty hard to find someone to fix any abuse that does happen. They advertise them on ebay -Starwood Dealership or something. It looks awesome -my opinion obviously. I'd do it if I could ... my wife can cause almost as much cosmetic damage as a trail ride

It's a lot, but I just wanted to know if anyone has actually seen one. Guess they are popular near that dealership in Texas. You are talking around $5500 for the paint (and 2 weeks for paint and shipping back and fourth) and $900 for shipping. But what about repairs, you would need someone local to fix dents and cosmetics .... if you care about that. I think I would want someone local, but the way they do it sounds unique, I guess. Can't say I really know that much about it. Just sounded cool.

Cheaper to replace a dented body.

are you sure they're not just hitting it with line-x xtra?
http://www.linex.com/xtra_6.shtml
that stuff uses the same "kevlar" technology from the dupli-color bed liner. if you want black and you want kevlar, you can pick up a kit of the dupli-color liner for about $100 from autozone. if you aren't concerned about the kevlar, pick up a upol raptor tintable kit for $100 (with the gun included) and spray yourself. it's easy, i've lined 2 tubs with it and that's the extent of my painting experience... both came out pretty good.
