How much is your and your wife's life worth?  $300 for a new cell is a bargain compared to the alternative.

agreed...that's kinda where I am at, but I wasn't sure if I was simply over complicating things

If you can locate the leak and determine that it is a gasket and not a weld, then I would fix the gasket issue.  If it is a weld that has failed then I would scrap start fresh.

But if you don't feel like doing any of that then pursue the safest alternative.


There is a fellow in the XJ section of Priate who is building a new rig because his old one caught on fire from a leaky fuel cell.  The fuel leaked out of the cell and pooled under it.  He thinks that it ignited when he hit a rock something sparked.  He was only able to save the axles (which needed new seals because they had melted).




This reminds me that I have to fix my venting issue.

I plan on finding the leak but the location it appeared to be leaking from was not a seal area...but ill take a closer look hopefully this weekend when I have some time.

So it's been awhile since I've done any sort of updates here...

Let's start with the buggy.....it's been a very slow process lately.  Between the wedding and having to give up my garage spaces at the apartment, I haven't had much time to work on it.  But have managed to make some progress.  Sadly no pics though.   But got the stock steering wheel off and swapped over for a remove able grant.   So much easier getting in and out now.  After that was done I decided to tackle some wiring, cause the kid I bought it from, knew nothing about proper wiring.   Now everything works like it's supposed to and I don't have to engage a locker in order to listen to music,

Also did some basic maintainer on it.  Changed all the fluids.  When I opened up the rear diff I was given a good surprise.  I was told I had 4.88 gears and a Detroit.  Well I have 5.13 gears and a spool.  Awesome, but what else did this kid not know about.  I guess I'll find out as I go deeper. 

I still need to locate the fuel leak, but I've narrowed it down to a couple fittings, just need to locate which one and reseal it.

So now the 05.....which presently I'm having a love hate relationship with.  The past 2 times I have taken it, it has broken.  Nothing major but enough to end my day and be frustrating.  But upgrading those parts is not an option at the moment or anytime soon. So il have to live with it and deal. 

Finally got around to replacing the fuel cell with a 2162 from rci and a new artec mount.  Got the genright stock fuel pump install ring.   So much nicer than the old kore setup I was using.  So far no leaks.   Now I just need to straighten out my very bent exhaust from the last trip with my brother in law behind the wheel.

I just picked up a trans cooler for the 05 but still need to get all the lines and fittings, trying to decide if I should bypass the stock cooler in the radiator or not?

And double check to see if the front has 4:88's or 5:13's

That's almost as crazy as running a 39" tire on the driver side and a 42" tire on the passenger side

take multiple steps forward and one giant one backwards....walked into the shop this morning to find 2 giant puddles of gear oil under the buggy...both inner seals on the front housing appear to be nonexistent...or I seriously overfilled...im hoping for the second but I don't have that kind of luck.  looks like I know what im doing tonight.

Anybody have any good tips on taking apart a d60 king axle.   This will be my first time

No real advise, but it's not that bad.  Pay attention to how tight you torque your wheel bearings to.  You do not want to go too tight.
